In this post I want to share with you the current population of each continent according to the latest data from the United Nations (2017) and the 2019 Wikipedia’s population projections.

2. CONTINENTS BY POPULATION (2019)

  • Asia ≈ 4550 million (United Nations: 4504 million; Wikipedia: 4570 million).
  • Africa ≈ 1275 million (United Nations: 1256 million; Wikipedia: 1290 million).
  • America ≈ 1000 million (United Nations: 1007 million; Wikpedia: 1007 million).
    • Latin America and the Caribbean ≈ 645 millon.
    • Northern America ≈ 360 millon.
  • Europe ≈ 750 million (United Nations: 742 million; Wikipedia: 746 million).
  • Oceania ≈ 40 million (United Nations: 41 million; Wikipedia: 42 million).

  • The population of each continent has been presented as a rounded average from both data sources in order to be easily remembered. The UN data gives reliability to the presented data and the 2019 projections from Wikipedia a more accurate and updated correction.
